Children whose parents are intentional about brain development are sharper and more active than children whose parents are lax about their brain development. Active brain development for children gives them an edge over their peers as they are smarter, more alert, more attentive, and have a more active social life.

Facts about brain development

Brain development stops at the age of twenty-five, that gives a parent enough time to work on this aspect of their child’s well being. The brain, like every other organ in the body, can be exercised. Just the way you exercise the muscle by lifting weights and the way you exercise the lungs by performing breathing exercises.

The brain can be exercised by doing mental workouts. Your child’s brain should be in the best condition to achieve success, and when I say this, I mean success in every sense of it, mentally, emotionally, academically, financially, and so on.

This stage of their lives is the best time to act fast on their future as their brains are like sponges and soak up quickly whatever you introduce to them; they are eager and ready to learn. I implore you as a parent to start early, and here are some tips for proper brain development.

How to develop a preschoolers brain?

  • A Healthy Start

Many young and first mothers ignore the fact that their health status during pregnancy is almost entirely the same as that of the baby inside of them. Endeavor to remain healthy during pregnancy, be careful about the type of drugs and medicines you take in. Some medicines can be very destructive to your baby’s forming brain.

There is quite an alarming number of children who were unknowingly drug-abused while still in the womb. They have been found to live their early lives struggling with severe learning challenges, and some others act with bizarre, aggressive attitudes. During pregnancy, cigarettes are a no-no; alcohol is prohibited as well. Do well to follow the doctor’s instructions strictly and take in a lot of fruits.

  • Listen

Learn to be very attentive. You expose your child to an emotionally dangerous situation if you give your child little attention, pay attention no matter how irrelevant the topic may seem to be. Learn to be interested in matters of your preschooler. Doing this establishes how important his or her desires are to you. Children have an uncanny ability of observation; they will learn to be attentive.

  • Encourage An Early Desire For Books

Books serve as a gateway to the world; read educational and moral books to them. Give them books with bright colored pictures; it will catch their attention, and they won’t rest until they’ve known what it is they have seen in the book. What better way to get their attention? Sit with them, and help them identify the pictures in the book. You can also make noises or sounds related to the image shown in the book at each point in time. For example, making a quack-quack sound when they see a duck. As underrated as this method may be, it is a very impactful tool towards developing your preschooler’s brain for success.

  • Comfort

Children, very much like adults, have hard times. There are times when they feel uncomfortable, times when they don’t know exactly what they want, even times that what they’re doing isn’t working out for them. There are statements you can make to help the situation of things when next your kid inevitably comes across a problematic situation. Here are a few illustrations of what to say in that kind of situation:

– “I understand you’re sad/disappointed/happy, and that’s perfectly OK.” This reinforces the notion that having feelings and emotions makes us human.

– “That was sad/frustrating.” Acknowledging what started your preschooler’s sadness assists in making them see what triggered their emotion and decide what next to do.

– “Let’s just take a break.” Moving away from the situation helps your preschooler understand that sometimes you have to walk away for a while to compose yourself.

– “I love you, and you are safe here with me.” They may need an extra hug, a snuggle, or holding on to your hand to feel that you are there for them.

– “Would you like to try that again?” Many times when your child cries due to frustration, they need either help to execute the task, a little break from the situation, or encouragement to try and do the task again.

Constantly and repeatedly reassure your child of your love, affection, and the undeniable power of the potentials they have inside of them. In turn, it would help build the limbic portion of their brain, which plays a crucial role in your preschooler’s decision-making process and stability.

  • Foster Your Child’s Creativity

Creativity is a highly valued mental characteristic in the arts, sciences, commercials, and any other problem-solving niche. Although some preschoolers are naturally more talented than others due to genetic differences, it can also be learned. Some of the fastest ways to nurture creativity in your preschooler include constantly exposing your child to literature and its different genres, music, arts and making unharmful tools like paper and paint readily available for him or her to work on or play with.

  • Eat, Sleep, Play

Many parents tend to undermine the importance of good food, adequate rest, and healthy play. Studies have shown that children who do these three activities in the proper amount have sharper memory and more eager brains than children that do not. Like, the famous idiom says, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’

Reading and studying all the time is not the only thing that will develop a child’s brain. There must be a balance between eating, sleeping, learning, and playing. Playing in itself serves as a great way to exercise the body. Sleep helps to rest the brain after the days’ stressful activity.

Eating balance diets energizes the body and gives it the strength for more activities. While learning is the brain’s way of exercising and expanding its capabilities. When you do all these in the right proportion, your child’s mind and brain will be sharp and ready every time.

  • Make Music A Part Of Your Child’s Life

Recent studies have shown and verified that listening to music can strongly boost memory, especially children’s.

Furthermore, it aids in sharpening the attention span, helping one to strictly direct his attention on one thing without being distracted. It speeds up motivation and aids rapid assimilation, and helps the learning process of every kid.

Music can also assist in reducing stress, which can become destructive to your preschooler’s brain. A study has also further shown that preschoolers’ brains develop faster when they undergo music training.

  • Let Your Kid See You Do Smart Things

Kids learn more by modeling what they see adults do. That’s why people say,” Whatever you don’t want to see your kids doing, don’t do it in front of them.” If your preschooler always sees you engrossed in reading books, writing, learning music, or doing creative kinds of stuff, they will imitate you, and in the process, make their brain sharper.

Kids also spend quite a lot of quality time on other screen devices such as smartphones, laptops, or tablets. However, on the contrary, excessive utilization of these smart devices can lead to health and emotional issues. It will be of great use to learn how to manage your child’s smart device screen time.

  • Enlist help from your toddler at clean-up times

This helps with the practice of categorization. They learn that stuffed toys have a place, and hard toys like cars and trucks have their place too. In a way, you have taught them the difference between hard and soft objects. They also need to learn about sorting things in order, from the smallest to the largest. This helps with their cognitive advancement in preschool.

  • Use positive discipline.

Suppose your toddler acts inappropriately, such as tearing a school book. Use a serious tone of voice and a stern expression to correct and clearly restate the rule and its consequences if not followed. Keep the rules simple and consistent for your child’s age. And when your child errs, correct without scarring or causing shame to your child.

These are proven essential tips and highly interactive activities that will in turn help your preschoolers’ brain to be active and strongly primed for mouth-watering successes in the lifelong academics and other endeavors.
